Using the site

Our guides, diagrams, and analysis are provided for general information and enjoyment. Chess is a game of judgment: we do our best to be accurate and to verify every position we publish, but we make no warranty that any recommendation, opening line, or gear pick suits your particular situation.

Orders and payment

• All items are original designs, made to order. Prices are shown at checkout and may change over time; the price you pay is the price confirmed at purchase.
• Payment is handled by Stripe. Placing an order is an offer to buy, which we accept when your item enters production.
• Because items are made to order, we cannot cancel or change an order once production has started. If an item arrives misprinted, damaged, or defective, contact us and we will make it right.

Intellectual property

The rules and notation of chess, opening names, ECO codes, and historical game scores are uncopyrightable facts. Our original compositions, diagrams, piece drawings, written guides, and brand marks are ours — please do not reproduce them commercially without permission.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Back Rank is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer law.
